I love life and believe
that it should be lived on purpose and with purpose
I grew up in the Poconos, PA where I was surrounded by more trees than neighbors. I went to college at Penn State where I met my husband—our first date was at a local restaurant called Eat ’n Park and we both ordered the same thing, a “French toast smile.” I knew that very night that he would be my husband. After I graduated with a degree in Public Relations and Advertising in 2011, I moved to Washington DC and worked in the corporate world for two years. I knew that my heart needed to be closer to my family, and since 2013, Derek and I have lived in State College, PA. We are parents to three littles- our son, Noah and daughters, Blake and Micah. Though I wasn’t raised in a family who owned their own business, being an entrepreneur was something I was drawn to. I run two businesses from home, which allows me to be a work from home Mom to my babies, and for that I am forever grateful.
6 weeks after having my first baby, I was cleared for exercise. My husband was out and reality sunk in that time was not my own anymore. I couldn’t just drive to the gym and spend 2 hours there. With a background in professional bodybuilding, the gym was my second home. I was never someone who exercised from home. When seasons of life change, you have the choice to remain the same or adapt. Take it from me— If the gym isn’t your place, your home can be your place.

Becoming a mom, I was prepared to make sacrifices, but I promised myself that exercise would not be one of them. I was determined to find a way to make it a priority. I went downstairs in my basement, put a mat on the floor, found a pair of dumbbells and snuck in a workout while my son was napping. 20 minutes later, I was covered in sweat and felt like I could accomplish anything I set my mind to—I didn’t need the gym, just a positive mindset! It was in that moment I knew I was called to do more for women like you, and Mission Rise was created in July 2019.
